Argyle, NY – Kelly S. Eustis, Republican candidate for Argyle Town Councilman, is expressing his appreciation of the New York State legislature for relieving farmers of an incongruous state mandate. The legislation, passed on Tuesday, will help protect rural places like Argyle, a small town in the agriculturally-based Washington County, from seeing its farming industry hurt by additional costs and bureaucracy.
“I’m truly pleased that we have leaders in state government who realized the burden of the New York State fire code requiring farming structures to be subject to strict building codes. Without it passing, barns failing an inspection could be forced to be torn down or incur additional costs to needlessly improve them,” said Eustis. “Gladly, there was plenty of support behind the changes and the Senate and Assembly passed the bill exempting the structures from the regulations.”
Last week, Eustis sent a letter of support to Senator Betty Little, representing Argyle in the 45th Senate District, and Senator James Seward for introducing the bill to defend farmers and those owning agricultural buildings on their property.
