FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, May 16, 2007

Argyle, NY – Kelly S. Eustis, a Republican and candidate for Argyle Town Councilman, sent the following letter to Senator Betty Little today:

Dear Senator Little:

I am writing to support Senate bill number S3022, co-sponsored by you, in relation to excluding permanent structures used in conjunction with farm operations from the definition of “building” for purposes of the New York State uniform fire prevention and building code act.

Leaving the law as it stands, as you know, would only cause additional and uncalled for strain on those in the farming industry who already have other matters at hand, such as record low milk prices and rising fuel and feed costs.  Mandating farmers to bring their barns and other non-residential structures up to the same level of inspection as homes and offices is absurd.  This would require inane equipment like sprinkler systems to be installed in barns and some historical farm buildings to be destroyed.

As a candidate for councilman for the Town of Argyle, I believe that the passing of the bill would be a great service to those in the agriculture community that have necessary, and often historic, structures on their property.

Thank you for continuing to represent the best interests of your constituents in small towns and farming communities like Argyle and others in Washington County.  I look forward to the bill being passed.

Sincerely,

Kelly S. Eustis
Candidate for Argyle Town Councilman
